The term comes from a combination of the words iPod (the digital audio player made by Apple) and broadcasting. You can use virtually any portable media player or your computer to listen.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The good news is that to\u00a0listen to podcasts you don\u2019t need to know how any of that works.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>How to Listen to Podcasts<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The easiest way to listen to a podcast is to <strong>subscribe<\/strong> to specific podcasts on your phone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depending on your mobile platform you can consider the following apps for podcast listening:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/apple-podcasts\/id525463029\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple Podcasts (iOS)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.podcasts&amp;hl=en_US\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google Podcasts (Android)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/overcast\/id888422857?mt=8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overcast (iOS)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pocketcasts.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pocketcasts (iOS\/Android)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotify.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spotify (iOS\/Android)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stitcher.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stitcher (iOS\/Android)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most podcasts also have a website where the host(s) will post links and resources mentioned in their episodes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A good podcast website will also include subscribe buttons on the home page. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you visit the site on your device, you will be able to subscribe with a couple of taps, like on <a href=\"https:\/\/chrisnesi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The House of #Edtech website<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019ve never listened to podcasts on your iPhone, then I recommend you get the <a href=\"https:\/\/overcast.fm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Overcast App<\/a> for listening to podcasts. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best features about Overcast are smart speed playback and volume boost. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can also listen to the podcasts you subscribe to on the Overcast website. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you start an episode on your phone and want to listen in your classroom on your computer, you will resume that content where you left off. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you resume playing the app will even start a podcast 101 post for people who don\u2019t understand what they are or how to listen.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>How to Find Podcasts<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most people listen to podcasts based on the recommendation of someone they know. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Word of mouth is the best way to discover and share podcasts. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So ask your friends what they listen to and enjoy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here&#8217;s a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/shakeuplearning.com\/blog\/16-fantastic-podcasts-for-teachers\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Kasey&#8217;s recommended podcasts for teachers<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to customize your listening experience, search Google for <\/span><b>\u201cyour topic\/interest\u201d + podcast<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can also search by keyword in many podcast apps. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, you can search \u201cedtech\u201d or \u201ceducation technology,\u201d and you will see many podcasts that relate to or cover this topic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re looking for some of the best education-themed podcasts, you need to check out the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edupodcastnetwork.com\/\"><b>Education Podcast Network<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a network of educators and content creators who have a passion for education and podcasting!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>TIP: As you find podcasts you enjoy, talk about them with other people and recommend them to people who you think will also enjoy them!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Podcasts for Professional Learning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>There are many podcasts for educators and professional learning.<\/p>\n<p>This is like having PD in your pocket!<\/p>\n<p>Learn what you want, when you want.<\/p>\n<p>Many educators like to listen to their favorite podcasts on their commute or during a workout.<\/p>\n<p>Since most podcasts are audio, it&#8217;s easy to listen as you do other things.<\/p>\n<p>I am the co-host of\u00a0 The\u00a0 <a \/>\n<h3><strong>Podcasts in the Classroom<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Podcasts can also be used to enhance the learning\u00a0experience in your classroom.<\/p>\n<p>There are podcasts about news, current events, history, literature, grammar, math, science, foreign language, and everything else under the sun.<\/p>\n<p>Many teachers will use podcasts as a learning station and ask students to take notes and respond to the topic in some way.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>How to Start Your Own Podcast<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you start listening to podcasts you might find yourself thinking, \u201cI\u2019d like to create my own podcast.\u201d or \u201cI\u2019d like my students to create podcasts.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this, I
